Being a Pagan in the Real World

The Curses of the Blessings & Directions to the Next Fair

What an amazing two weeks. Amazing in the best and the worst ways. Time was running incredibly short for contract fees to be paid over which would allow me to do something that I’ve been dreaming of for years: official restaurant reviews.

Of course no point in dining out when you got no cash to do so, and review fees only get paid over once all the reviews are done and submitted. So I had to have cash available to visit TWENTY local restaurants WITH hubby (because he couldn’t abide the idea that I’d be snooping around these fancy places without him hahahha) so eventually miracle number two happened, Social Media contracts came in… SIX of them! But this is also where the stress begins. Oh my. One national franchise brand with a head office brand manager with a god-complex and an international motor brand who wants what Social Media can bring, but doesn’t actually want me to “say” anything. They tell me, “you can say Thing #1 and you can say Thing #2 only. Nothing more nothing less. Now run along and find us fans and followers, just make sure they’re local and will eventually be like actual clients.” Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

I decided that the big-headed franchise has a choice; they can either be nice to me and I’ll help them with their social media campaign, or they can continue to be a bunch of dick-heads and I can conveniently take on another client that will take up the remainder of my free account space and they’d find themselves on the social media curb with no idea of where the proverbial UP is. Lovely stuff.

I guess the upshot of all of this is that we wish for a lot of stuff, some do all sorts of magical workings, ritualized begging and pleading all to get the opportunities that will be the “big break” when the opportunities are really there all the time, just sometimes the maintenance of their reality is more than most people are willing to accept. Besides, magic is supposed to be easy, it makes it easy to get stuff without having to actually DO anything to get it. [Sarcasm Sign]

Ja well sometimes it is like that, and sometimes it’s a real ball-ache to manifest the reality we want Sometimes the reality of what we want is wonderful and easy and other times its not what we thought it would be at all, taking up our time with aspects that we didn’t take into consideration to begin with. Now for some people this would make us re-evaluate our desires, asking the core question again, but others lay blame, counter ritualize and bemoan their magical fate and low about how the Gods have done them in once more.

It’s very easy to buy a book, learn the basics and open channels for rewards and boons to come flooding in. But be sure to look at as many of the contingencies as you can or find yourself dealing with people you didn’t count on, attitudes chillier than the Tundra and ego’s the size of the universe without ever having considered what you were going to do about it.

So my week was filled with “interesting times” and luckily I have support and space to tweek the surprises as they come. Now, my Social Media clients are all squared away. The restaurant reviews are done and dusted; submitting in the new week. Like a birth process, I felt the pain and had to reset a dislocated nose or two, but we’re getting there. Now to ride this pony to the next fair, because it’s all about progress. Got the gift, now what you gonna do with it? BOOYA!
